Still life with flowers in a Korond jug Painting

The canvas is made of hemp mixed with cotton, mounted on a wooden frame. I have chosen to study these specific items because of the stories, intimacy and well-being I associate them with - the pottery pieces and the cloth are handmade, while the tomato and flowers were grown in a small garden. The Hungarian (a local minority) word for tomato is the same word for Paradise: paradicsom. The Romanian name for this type of tomato is "the heart of the ox". The sensual textures, plane contrasts, gentle lighting and the rustic designs become an opportunity to exercise classical painting. The rigor and slowness of the process demand structured observation, adding depth to a fleeting moment of delight.
