I've always wanted to do a painting where the machines in a factory looked more alive than the people who worked there. The machines were inspired by actual machines, medieval armor and torture devices. The title came from a character in the book/film, "Midnight Express," who was an inmate in a Turkish prison and believed all the prisoners were "bad machines," from a factory.
