About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by a rediscovered home-movie of family holidays in the late 1970s. Following a lengthy editing process, I isolate certain stills that get reinvented through the painting process. I use high quality oil paints made with natural pigments laid over a carefully primed wooden board. Thin glazes are applied over a chosen coloured ground which gives the final painting luminosity and vibrancy. Smaller than my usual paintings, this piece is more intimate and melancholic but also echoes movie scenes of the French New Wave movement of the 60s and 70s (JL Godard etc..).

Antonia Jackson is a French born London-based artist and a graduate from Wimbledon College of Art. She is interested in memory and the cinematic and her paintings stem from found family archives ( and more precisely rediscovered Super 8 home movies) that she brings back to life through the medium of painting. Essentially narrative, her work hovers between figuration and abstraction and her bold use of colour is influenced by post-Impressionist French and German painters.She has exhibited extensively in the Uk and has started exhibiting in France. She has recently been selected for the RA Summer Exhibition 2020. Her work is held in private collections in the UK, France,Austria and Greece.
