About The Artwork

This landscape is not painted by imagination, but by the nature impression. It began with a sketch made in an open air in the middle of September in Chalkidiki. It was early in the afternoon. The southern Greek sun was high, but it was not so hot. A great olive could not but attract attention. For half a year it had been nourished with the rays of the scorching sun and this only added strength to it. The trimmed grass is dried up, but the olive shows a triumph of fertility. The symbol of life, the allegory of immortality – all these are a small part of the meanings attributed to one of the most life-loving trees on earth, bearing fruit for hundreds of years. The sun shines through the olive tree crown. This gives the already silvery foliage a shimmering shine along the contour. Warm yellow casts it in the sun, multicolored bluish tints – in the shade. Olive plantations are peculiar: soft convergence of the color of foliage and burnt grass creates a feeling of hot dry summer. The painting is not a piece of imaginative thinking. It’s such a case where beauty and meaning are enough. In 2017 "The Greek Olive" was exhebited in the museum of Lee Kezhang, Beijing, China. The 1st place was awarded for painting "Greek olive" in the landscape nomination within the framework of the XV International exhibition-contest "Ukrainian Art Week". The author of this painting is one of the finalists in the most prestigious realist art competition in the Americas – the 13th International ARC Salon Competition.
