"The Hunter's Daughter (Understudy)" details a narrative of delicate beauty and hidden depths. At its center, a glass swan vase stands as a silent sentinel, its graceful curves capturing both fragility and elegance. Within its translucent confines, clusters of belladonna flowers emerge, their deep purples and soft petals gradually blending into the intricate patterns of William Morris-style wallpaper that adorns the background. Subtle nods to nature and the ephemeral nature of existence, echoing the botanical and mystical properties of the nightshade flower. Entwining themes of life's transience with the allure of the natural world. The title, "The Hunter's Daughter (Understudy)," adds an intriguing layer of theatricality, hinting at a narrative yet to unfold. It invites viewers to contemplate the roles we play in the grand theater of life, while also acknowledging the understated complexities that lie beneath the surface. In this painting, beauty and danger coalesce in a delicate balance, inviting viewers to ponder the intricate interplay between fragility and strength, life and death. It is a work that captivates the imagination, inviting viewers to lose themselves in its enchanting depths.

Ben Stephenson is a British artist currently living and working in Mexico. His primary medium is painting, although his practice is multidisciplinary and encompasses sculpture, photography and performative installations. Notions of Colonialism and Voyeurism are central themes throughout his work as he investigates the act of looking at/observing the world from a distance and the misinterpretations that entail. For this reason he has traveled from London to work in a different climate and culture with the intentions of absorbing new stimuli as well as reassessing pre-existing ideas of the exotic. Much of the work displayed here is derived from historical narratives, with source imagery in films and photographs being a primary stimulus. Ben has spent the past two years living and working between Colombia and Mexico. His most recent exhibitions include 'FAIN feria' in Monterrey, Mexico, 'Genesis in the Retort' at the Museo de la Ciudad in Queretaro, Mexico, and 'NADA' at Outsiders Gallery in Queretaro, Mexico. He was awarded 1st prize by the Mexican Embassy in London for a collaborative sculpture in the recent Camaradas exhibition at The Koppel Project Exchange in July 2021.
