I can take inspiration for a new piece of work from almost anything, sometimes it’s a piece of music, or a film, sometimes it’s a random thought that enters my head. When I created this painting I had finished quite a few in the same style and needed inspiration for what to put on such a large canvas. I immediately thought lion! I imagined a chaotic mane that sometimes fades in to the background with the focus to be on his face. Lions are such strong and noble looking animals, which is what I wanted to capture with this painting. My lion could be looking towards his family with pride or looking towards his next meal…waiting to pounce. Either way he’s a sight to behold and he certainly deserves to be the king of the pride.
