About The Artwork

This work started with cheerfulness, pleasure, surprise, confusion, uncertainty, being stuck, drama, hopeless, a speech, new insights, bright spots, letting go, moving on, adjusting, satisfied, happy en joy. I made this artwork on recycled cardboard for 2 reasons. One because we want to keep our footprint as small as possible and I don't want to waste materials. Two because the structure of cardboard can give such a beautiful effect. A clear win-win situation.

“Where words are sometimes lacking, color and shapes fill that in for me. I play with it like a writer plays with sentences, or a cook with ingredients”. My work is a constant search for balance. I need structure, but I'm terrified of boring. To find a way around this I try to simplify the complexity of life through my art. What do I need now? What is superfluous? It is a constant game of adding & subtracting, of controlling & letting go. The framed shapes give me structure and tranquility. The colors create tension. This is how I try to create the perfect balance. It is a beautiful and sometimes complicated process. As a child I was already attracted by the dynamics of colors and planes. It is therefore not surprising that I attended the University of the Arts in Utrecht and graduated here in 1996. After that I started working as a fashion designer, stylist, designer and trend watcher. In all these disciplines I was also constantly working on color, form and composition. The love for this is simply in my DNA. Nowadays I work full time as an artist
