About The Artwork

I started this piece the week that Roe v Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court. I struggled with the differing opinions I read, even more so after recently giving brith to the greatest blessing that was my own unplanned pregnancy. The piece sat for weeks, and I only picked it back up after walking alongside a close friend through her decision about an unwanted pregnancy. Though I have my own personal views on legislation around this issue, I know one thing to be true: Legislation will not play the role of loving support- which is the truest, realest thing that women need today. Mixed Media on canvas finished with archival varnish. This piece was created by Madeline K Barry in her studio in Atlanta, Georgia as a part of her 2022 Fall collection, “The Truth About Women”. It ships via Saatchi Art and arrives ready-to-hang.

Atlanta based painter Madeline K Barry has been honing her skills in acrylic abstract portraiture since 2016. Working in mixed media on canvas, she explores the multifaceted nature of women, focusing on the qualities that seem to most contradict each other: Brilliant minds in sexy bodies. Nurturing mothers with thriving careers. Peacemakers that are willing to fight. Her abstract portraits are composed of layers of bright contrasting colors, dark charcoal drawings, gold leaf, and oil pastel. Madeline studied drawing at the Academie Mechelen in Belgium. As a part of the O.M. Art Collective, she expanded her career first through live painting performance at conferences and events before continuing with solo and group exhibitions throughout Belgium, Germany, and later the U.S. Collaborating with artists locally and internationally, Madeline draws her inspiration through uncommon stories from women around the world.
