The canvas is pure and white With a long pencil swirl I outline the shape of a girl I then hide the eyes in the snare of a gentle, soft lock of hair A bitter curve for the lips Her soul naked and tender I shroud in blue sorrowful splendour A few dark lines of the pencil Bow the head in surrender A couple of strokes to impair A wine glass full of despair Finally a dollop of crimson blossoms into a flower, a plea This is where love … used to be.
