Thunderstorms always cause delight and joy in me. I like to watch how thunder breaks the sky, how lightning outlines the sky. This anticipation, the state of nature before the storm is what inspired me for this painting. I wanted to show with the foliage of a tree how it tears it apart, how dark and heavy clouds fill the horizon, how the surface of the lake's water froze before the storm began.
The artwork is painted in plain air, pasty, dense and juicy strokes. The color scheme contains a lot of blue, light blue, lilac and various dark greens. The painting can be attributed to classical realism or impressionism.
Oil on canvas on cardboard, 2018.

Searching for my own path in painting took me a certain time. It has passed nine years since my first attempts to paint. However, during last several years I have started feeling self-assured, as my works reached desired level of skilfulness and artistic approach, and I really started liking them. Currently my love to post-impressionist artists' paintings became especially strong. I am often inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Albert Marquet, and Latvian artist Janis Valters. Most of all I value coloristic beauty of their works as well as the artists’ ability to show the weather conditions and the state of the nature with one brush stroke. Now I look into the future with greater confidence, think over new creative plans, and expect fulfilling them!
