About The Artwork

This painting is part of a much larger series of paintings on 600gsm paper in acrylic paint. As an artist Louise has always been drawn to the beauty of the worn textures of old buildings this is an ongoing theme in all of her paintings, building up layers of paint that she washes and scraps away to create this body of work. Living in a beautiful country as Portugal has been her inspiration, it is full of many colourful examples of old decaying buildings, from painted houses to stone buildings, these colours and textures of wear that the sun and rain have created are wrapped up in this series. These paintings are painted in acrylic on heavy 600gsm paper and will need to be mounted.

I worked as a draughtsman for several years before deciding to return to Art college where I gained a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art Painting in 1996 and have been painting since. I paint from my studio which is a converted lorry container surrounded by open countryside. I spend a great deal of time outdoors being inspired by open skies during the long walks with my two dogs. My paintings are very expressive Abstracts being extremely physical in their execution, they have a powerful presence and my large paintings are capable of making a statement to any room. My technique of painting is characterised by immediacy of a painting process and the urgency of decision making along with composition, spraying scraping at the canvas. Despite the appearance of forces meeting I constantly assess and push the boundaries of the medium exploring the pigments and their reactions to one another. Working in my studio I like to have several stretches primed ready for painting as when I feel inspired I like to paint from one canvas to another. I make a point of mixing my own colours from primary colours, as this is all part of the painting experience learning about colour mixes and is also a lot of fun. I have my work in collections in Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg, Italy, Ireland and the UK.
