About The Artwork
I've been painting Still Lifes for a long time now. This serie came about when I was doing a special project during the Corona crisis, to help people working in floriculture. I was doing some research after the name 'Vanitas' and discovered that it stems from vanity and emptiness. The traditional view being that earthly goods and pursuits are transient and worthless. For me it also relates to meditation and the realisation that everything is empty in essence and that persuing worldly goods is not bad, but will not make you happy.
