About The Artwork

Please use dimensions as a guide, because the painting is mounted on a sheet of backing paper. Dimensions of the painting itself itself are 47x58 cm (18.5x22.8"), with the backing it's 50x62 cm (19.6x24"). The edges of dosabiki paper can be covered by the frame or left visible, depending on your preference and recommendations of the framer. This is an original painting of two koi fish, swimming somewhere in clear waters. Japanese ink on Dosabiki masashi paper. The dosabiki paper is handmade, with uneven rustic edges, slightly off-white colour. Koi fish are part of Japanese life and culture, highly symbolic, loved and admired for their unique colour patterns and grace. They go about their life, oblivious to us, humans. The koi fish are associated with prosperity, good fortune and perseverance in life. The painting is signed and sealed, wet-mounted on backing paper and ready for framing or mounting on a scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing.

Shipping & Returns

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
