In this artwork, a family stands in the warm sand, facing the vast ocean before them. They are on holiday, enjoying the sun, the sound of the waves, and the company of one another. The parents watch as their children run and play in the water, their laughter echoing across the beach. The painting depicts a large group of interconnected people gathered in a circle. The bodies are dynamic, expressing the concepts of self-entertainment, dance, and levitation. The site of gathering in this artwork is a natural beach, and the levitating and costumed bodies give the work a surrealist feel, offering a sense of dreamy timelessness to the painting. The painting was started in December 2019, before the current pandemic, but the idea of large groups of people gathered together likely came from the artist's subconscious as a way to prepare for being in self-isolation. Despite the surrealistic elements, the painting is harmonious and celebrational, showing what it would look like when people were dancing and posing in a public space. Overall, the artwork portrays the joy and freedom of being on holiday with loved ones, while also exploring the surreal and dreamy elements of human connection and gathering.
