About The Artwork

An original acrylic painting on a small birchwood panel. The sides of the panel are painted white. The painting is not framed so you can frame according to your decor. Supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist. About the painting For several years I stayed in the Scottish Highlands in particular Glen Clova. One year I decided to walk around the one road that circles the glen and make a lot of sketchbook colour studies as I went along. This proved rather ambitious as each study took roughly 30-40mins and the road is long… so in the end I took the car and stopped in all the passing places to paint whatever could be seen from that point. It was a good plan producing many colour studies. Later in the week I walked back up the road to take in this particular view and then back at home in the studio in Cambridgeshire, I did this painting among many others.

www.chrissiehavers.com Represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art. The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
