About The Artwork
This work was inspired by a winter visit to the Des Moines Botanical Gardens. While touring through the dome of the indoor gardens in the beautiful jungle-like atmosphere with the heat of the sun and the trickle of the garden waterfall, I was so struck by the beautiful red veins on the leaves of this wonderful plant. I wanted to paint it as I saw it but I chose a composition that also played the depth of the large leaf in front to the flat like patterns of the leaves behind.

I am a painter, potter, phottographer and writer. I exhibit my work all across the United States and my work can be found in many public and private collections. I was an art teacher at the secondary level for 33 years and have been an adjunct professor of art for 15 years at Simpson College. I wrote a newspaper column for 29 years in addition to being avserious, practicing artist. Some of my work is based upon my travels while other work is created from my own surroundings. My studio is in Indianola, Iowa were I also enjoy creating beautiful flower gardens.
