About The Artwork
I sat and sketched this view of the Vltava River in Czech Bohemia. This painting was completed in my studio which is 10 minutes walk from here. The Beaver have returned to the river after a long absence and are busy harvesting young trees along the banks. The Vltava river flows north to Prague where it joins the Labe / Elbe and continues North to Hamburg. On this day I had a dip in the fresh water with my son and our dog. Fine layers of acrylic paint combine to create the warm glow of the sunlit grasses and the cooler tones of the water.

I was born in Sligo, Ireland in 1967. I now live with my family in South Bohemia, Czech but I also return regularly to Sligo to be with my father and to enjoy the Atlantic coastline. I paint in both locations. I have worked in over 30 countries overseas mostly in challenging emergency and humanitarian environments. I have had discs removed in my neck and lower back and due to nerve issues I must now paint with my right wrist and arm in a fixed brace. But painting is my physical and mental therapy and it gives me much joy to share my art with you.
