Wanderlust - framed Painting

This is a small/medium sized work, filled with shades of mauve, greens, lavender, on a backdrop of yellow, peach and blues. A nod to the spring season and the jacarandas in bloom. Part of a new evolving body of work. Each one inspired by the benign objects around the home and in my studio. Such detail captured from inspiration close at hand. The brushstrokes originally evolved from a reference to the minute flowers that make up a banksia flower. During the last 2 years and many lockdowns, the artist has spent so much time in her studio surrounded by many objects including a collection of dried native flowers. The intense focus on the detail of these flowers and their shapes gave rise to this body of work. This and the artists passion for textiles, means that the marks have similarities to all the creative past times the artist has enjoyed for a life time, such as knitting, crochet and embroidery. Each mark is painstakingly added to a backdrop of layered paint, taking the work in a completely different direction to it's original format. This creates an illusion of texture and movement over the canvas that is as mesmerising as the process is itself. The layers underneath are laid down in a chaotic manner using color to emphasise the emotions and turmoil during experienced during the last couple of years. The marks are indeed the antithesis of the initial layers, organic shapes different shades and hues, in some sort of semblance of order, a veneer overlaying a reality. The work is signed on the front, framed in beautiful Tassie Oak, a snug fitting frame, not a floating frame.
