About The Artwork

Bulgarian Triennial of MINI TEXTILE 2023 20.11- 11.12.2023 Presented by: UBA- The Textile Art section of the Union of Bulgarian Artists Venue: Sofia Press Gallery, Sofia, Bulgaria Spiral, as a main symbol of Evolution, has been chosen to express Man's relationship with Nature. The Evolution of the human spirit takes place from the inside out and requires constant upgrading. The texture of the spiral visualizes the individual's moment of awareness, as well as the process of realizing this interdependence with Nature, its phases and stages that go from denial and rejection to building and perfection. This is accomplished through the use of digitally embroidered words in one work and through the use of embroidered feathers, chosen as a symbol of the animal world in the other. We have not reached the phase of "0 WASTE" yet and it means that even the positive, ecological, already used techniques can still be improved a great deal. The Earth, or Gaia as it is called, is a living being and could only be itself when we take care not to make it sick and use it in ways that would destroy it. She is our home and we are the main factor on which her and our own survival depends!

Dimana Nakova holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion & Textile Design from University of Technology Sydney, Australia. During her studies she interned with some Australian fashion designers and worked as a fashion designer assistant and a couture dressmaker for some of the most prestigious bridal boutiques in Sydney. In 2003, Dimana Nakova established her own label IXTYS (https://atelierixtys.com/) and opened a boutique in Sofia/ Bulgaria, Europe. The atelier produced couture wedding and ball gowns, evening and cocktail dresses. Since Spring 2023, Dimana Nakova has started a whole new approach to her fashion collections for IXTYS and has introduced One-of- a-kind textile artworks with each one of them. The textile artworks are meant for interior decorating, but also serve as a starting point and a concept for the created afterwards dresses. The main techniques are hand stitched digital embroidery and beading, 3D. Sustainability It is important for us to think sustainable and make sustainable choices. We make the effort to use excess designer fabrics for at least 90% of our production. Investing in technology, we have brought the embroidery process in our atelier and thus have insured minimal wastage of fabric and thread. Making the embroidery in the atelier requires less courier van transport then before. We use the embroidery threads of Madeira, a winner of The Sustainability Award. Even the smallest fabric remnants left after the cutting and the embroidery process, are further processed. For example, they are cut on small pieces or even unraveled to treads, stitched to a base to form a texture, and then embroidered.
