About The Artwork

Following on from my previous painting 'Road to Nowhere' - The sky again is the subject. Painted in a semi abstract style, allowing the paint to drip and overlay and with the addition of the telegraph pole painted in a more realistic way, the impression is given that not all is what it seems - hence the title, a reference to an iconic line in an iconic film.

Martin Varennes-Cooke is an original painter and illustrator who mixes a Pop art aesthetic with a Fine art approach. He has exhibited in London, Glasgow and his hometown of Brighton. Martin is influenced by street art and nature, in particular birds, which have become his signature and a main focus of his work. He mixes the human form and nature in colorful and contemporary ways, always striving to show that the subjects have a sense of unity with the feathered creature accompanying them. Martin believes an artist is always evolving and this is true in his case. Recent work has had an 'otherworldly' quality which evokes intrigue and questions in the viewer.
