What matters Painting

Under this painting are several completed landscapes. Each time I finished the painting, it did not feel concluded, there was a lingering doubt that something was not resolved. My Art practice relies solely on intuition, so I let the painting sit in my studio until I could figure out where we were going on this journey. Before I start painting, I journal. It’s a practice of writing whatever comes into my head, nothing planned, and I throw it away when I am finished. Always three pages, and I am often amazed at what I learn about myself. As I was writing, I realized this painting looking at me was reflecting a lot of what I am currently experiencing, and I wanted to show that. I covered a lot of what I had previously painted, because I wanted to give only snippets of what was beneath, not represent everything. I wanted to explore what was relevant to the painting, small glimpses of truth to understand what really matters in our journey. I didn’t want too much information covering the surface, it was a process of selection. That is what this painting represents to me, sifting through a lot of our expectations to find our truth and prioritize it.
