Growing up in England I recall traveling on these magnificent behemoths as well as watching them pass by. They are part of British heritage, nostalgic of a time before electric. In this particular painting I wanted to capture the power and detail of the engine, the heat of its steam and contrast it with a setting of country stillness, of cold and light. This oil painting was sold, but the widow of its owner returned it to me to sell to a steam train enthusiast who would appreciate, as she said ' its amazing detail and atmosphere.' The painting is framed.
