About The Artwork
Dreams can do strange things to one's imagination. Trees or tree-like structures are reoccurring subjects in Wim van Loon's work. Once he read about a mythological tree, Yggdrasill, the world tree in Nordic cosmogony. In its top there lived a white eagle, and underneath a dragon or snake. In between a squirrel was moving up and down, trying to pit the two against each other. Later, Van Loon dreamed about a tree that slowly dissolved and was reshaped in the form of different animals: the trunk becam a ram, the top became a flock of birds, and underneath crocodiles were swimming. This dream was the basis for the triptych 'Yggdrasill'. The three paintings each measure 75x115 cm unframed. Framed they measure 79x119 cm. The paintings are signed, and come with a certificate of authenticity.
