This image is from the 2023 Bird Week Australia Exhibition “From the ground up”, where Angela explores explores the crucial connection between birds and trees. Cassowaries are considered a 'keystone' species for their role in dispersing rainforest seeds and maintaining biodiversity. It is estimated that 70-100 species of plant rely on cassowaries for seed dispersal and germination. If the Cassowary became extinct, it would also destroy much of the rainforest ecology. The Australian Southern Cassowary is listed as an Endangered species at both the Queensland State and Australian Government levels. Key threats have been identified as habitat loss, vehicle strikes, dog attacks and the increasing frequency of natural disasters. Did you know the Cassowary is a direct descendent of the dinosaurs?! This Cassowary was photographed in the Daintree. Technique: Used a combination of in-camera double exposures and digital post production. Professionally printed on 340gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag® Metallic fine art paper. Each print is signed & embossed, includes a certificate of authenticity with edition number.
