Doubles (with brasseries) Photograph - Limited Edition of 7

A beloved image from my series Object Lessons, I painted brasseires on wax paper then photographed them and finished this print on a computer. This image was taken on set of my short 16mm film The Lollipop Girls Struggle on the Hard Earth, a piece that looks at the difficulty of navigating what is real and what isn't once one becomes an adult. There is a point over the bridge for a young person where turning back towards the freedom of childhood feels possible. The process of becoming an adult is thrilling, intimidating and also disappointing. As adults we become aware that something seems missing. The fantasy of paradise lost (a free world that we can no longer reach) is found in childhood literature, coloring books, art, fashion, advertising, and design. The experience of a real life includes the complicated navigation. I found that having the actresses not wear tops was, although closer to the freedom we so crave, at times a distraction for viewers and so I made this print to address that.
