About The Artwork
Ester is buried in Genoa's monumental Staglieno cemetery; the ceiling in a palace in Turin. I photographed it & the marble statue of her (sculpted by Scanzi in 1885) in 2016. She was a wealthy heiress (shipping) who married well (shipping insurance) but after 5 children and 14 years of marriage, died at 32 in a last childbirth. She maintained a reserve of hauteur, knowing well that she just missed being beautiful, always a bit insecure.
