French and British explorers began to populate this area of Canada that we now refer to as Old Montreal because of its location in the middle of the St. Lawrence river several centuries ago. As Montreal developed this area was all but abandoned and historical buildings were being torn down until some very influential and respected citizens came to its rescue. Today it's the premier tourist spot for Americans and Canadians from outside Quebec. Along with Quebec City, Old Montreal is the closest you will get to feeling like you're in Europe. This image was duplicated in post processing and blurred slightly to give it a surreal painterly look.
