When I started this photo shoot, my goal was to do a series of images showing a callous rock star mistreating a fawning and devoted groupie. I placed a want ad on Craigslist, looking for amateur models. This couple, a husband and wife, showed up together in a car so old and broken down I don’t know how they made it. As soon as I started shooting them, I realized I had to abandon my plan because their deep love for each other was so obvious no matter how they posed or pretended otherwise. So instead, we decided to show two people doing one of the worst things they could do but doing it together, bound in love with a commitment to each other as strong as their addiction. They weren’t really junkies. But their love was more real than anything I had planned for the shoot.
