About The Artwork

Marguerite Poccardi died in 1920 at the age of twelve; she was a bright, good humored, active girl, vibrantly healthy, with a bit of an outdoorsy tan, on her way to womanhood when she was cut down abruptly by the "Spanish" influenza that carried off millions. Her wealthy and loving parents wished her commemorated in marble, and had then famed sculptor Boucher immortalize her; she's buried in Paris, where I photographed her statue in 2016. To depict her is to celebrate her.
