The Virgin Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, a virgin conceived by angelic revelation. A very symbolic figure in Christianity, an object of worship, and has appeared in numerous works of art. Our Lady is pure, maternal, and obedient to patriarchy. And in the Western world, through the worship of the Virgin like this, unmarried women's pleasure and mother's motherhood have been controlled. Looking at the policies implemented to control the fertility rate in today's Korean society, it feels that the female image that society wants is consistent with Mary. Mary is willing to devote herself to fetal production without rebelling against heavenly revelation. In “직무유기 마리아 Maria, delinquency of duty” the artist's veiled belly with Maria's split belly pours out pieces of painting that are not babies. The artist's womb, showing the soles of his feet to the viewer and spreading his legs, is in abandonment. As a woman, the artist rejects the obligation to produce a fetus, which leads to work on vanity and end.

South Korea
Dabin Lee is an artist based in Seoul. Her main themes are emotions that people commonly experience but are not easily revealed, such as depression, fear and anxiety. As a child, Dabin explored the inner dark parts of her depression and used art as a means of expressing and resolving emotions. Mostly her works are inspired by portrait photography, medieval religious paintings, literature, and expressed using rough and thick textures, spilling and spreading accidental effects. And her paintings are expanding the range of expression to media such as body painting, photographs, videos and performances. The beginning of Dabin’s work was to relieve personal feelings. But as her work expanded, she realized that it was contraindicated to reveal dark emotions in Korean society. Since then, her goal has been to let viewers see their dark feelings in her works and to face them.
