I am a Sardinian lens-based artist based in the United Kingdom, exploring, defying, and rethinking the medium of photography. My practice focuses on experimental photographs that challenge more than the way we see, but the way we experience the world around us. These are moments of escape, embracing the unpredictability of life itself and the beautiful cacophony hidden within our psyche. Objects and moments of daily life collage together to distort and exaggerate what we know as real. Through a DIY aesthetic, I explore realms beyond the physical through manual alterations to photographic materials. Handmade filters, chemical alterations to my film, double exposures, and digital scanning, sometimes complemented by experiments with embroidery or painting directly on the developed image, embracing the unexpected results they produce. Fueled by the spontaneity of the creative process, I am deeply inspired by nature. My work taps into the meditative patterns, captivating textures, and shifts of color that encapsulate the unfathomable majesty of the natural world. Just as our Earth is in a state of constant renewal, my images become portals to new times and places, allowing us to see the world around us from surreal, juxtaposing vantage points. My images are also opportunities to voyage into unseen inner worlds. Building upon the sense of enlightenment I found in self-portraiture, I dissect and reconstruct internalized narratives. They become collages built from the fragments of memories, images, symbols, and emotions lying dormant beneath the surface. In this vein, my otherworldly atmospheres also become visualized experiences of higher states of consciousness. Inspired by my past work photographing the culture of raves and festivals, I investigate the curious behavior of individuals who embrace transcendental ways of thinking, allow the binds of reality to loosen, and come together to form a seemingly utopian environment. Channeling this transformative vision of alternate realities, my images become a playground where we are liberated from our inhibitions, the grind of routines, and our personal and societal stigmas. The act of seeing has become warped in an age dominated by technologies, such as the presence of Artificial Intelligence. Photography inherently embodies this dichotomy of truth and distortion, challenging us to see alternate realities that exist parallel to our own.
