About The Artwork

In 2006 the low tide of Niafourang beach was magical. The movement of the seas at that time was quite different from those of today. It is possible to note that the maritime advance on the Casamance coast is a fact. At that time, we cycled, walked ... we used to spend the late afternoon admiring the grand play ground that became the sands of Niafourang. There I made good portraits and held great meetings. On that occasion, we had gone to the beach with the great friend Kalifa "Papis" Souané at the time at the age of 16. Papis was our guide and right-hand man for Benjamin Jayr - president of the NGO PERMAKABADIO (even today Papis is still the representative of the PERMAKABADIO association - in Kabadio) -. At the time, I was researching a very angular composition that was capable of "swallowing" that mirrored scenario in front of me in image. I became interested in Papis' body shapes - the reflections of wet sand and the heavy sky. I invited Papis to play with a stone - thereby stimulating different angles of his body. As he moved, new shapes and reflections were revealed. With the same 25mm lens I made several clicks - this was the most important one that in my opinion shows the grandeur of the coast while inserting the human figure in an absolute form in a complete movement in silhouette. In this image dwells the poetry of the late afternoon of Niafourang beach of the past. A tide that no longer exists. Tech info: Analogic photography 35mm lford HP5 + 2tps BW. Nikon fm2 - Zeiss ZF.2 25mm Print on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta paper 325g. Also available in 50x60cm analogic process on Ilford Pearl paper.
