About The Artwork

Currently on display in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Although technically a landscape the image is a tighter observation of the make up of a popular landmark. The rock formation once formed part of a sea wall that was built to protect the coastline. It sits on the easterly side of the Isle of Wight, and is often dwarfed by the unobscured sunrise from the English Channel. The rocks are highlighted with subtle artificial light to accentuate their contours against the rising sun in the background. The sand in the foreground is still lit by the slowly darkening moon. A long exposure image shot just before dawn, the print depicts a landscape, artificially lit with LED lights and coloured gels.
