“Remembering Francisco Toledo" 2019, Mexico City. In 1987 I took the photograph of his terracotta shrimp. In September 2019 Francisco Toledo died at 79. With digital modification I transformed the image in 2019 into an offering to the sensibility, creativity and humility of the celebrated artist, social activist and promoter of the arts. From my bilingual book " To die is to live in Mexico / Morir para vivir en México." Toledo was born in 1940 in Juchitán and died 2019 in the city of Oaxaca. He was a man of few words and a vast artistic, social and philanthropic legacy. His work reflects his native land, the magic and mystery of his Zapotec Indian background enhanced by his profound knowledge and appreciation of the human condition and of universal art. This is how he described his cultural heritage: “My art is a mixture of what I have seen and of other things that come from I don't know where. I have been influenced by primitive art, but also by crazy people, by the mentally ill, and foremost, by Rufino Tamayo.” The 91 cm print comes in a limited edition of 9. Title, author and year of manufacture are included on the print. The print comes with a 2,5 cm white border. Made to order on archival cotton paper in 10 days plus shipping. As an industrial photographer from Cologne, Germany, based since 1967 in Mexico City, I used my craft for decades to document scenes and subjects in sharp, detailed and well lit images. Back in the seventies, when simulating views of other planets, I was looking for a different perception of reality and found it with infrared color film. Today I enjoy a creative freedom similar to that of a painter. With the right combination of photograph and digital manipulation I can create images that are a tribute to imagination and beauty. Starting in 2019 I present on Saatchiart 15 collections as a synopsis of my photography, some digitally remastered and others digitally modified, for sale as archival inkjet prints in different sizes.
