About The Artwork

Saphho and her loves 70x70cm(27.5x27.5 inch) "Sappho was an Archaic Greek poet from the island of Lesbos. Sappho is known for her lyric poetry, written to be sung while accompanied by a lyre. In ancient times, Sappho was widely regarded as one of the greatest lyric poets and was given names such as the "Tenth Muse" and "The Poetess". Most of Sappho's poetry is now lost, and what is extant has mostly survived in fragmentary form; two notable exceptions are the "Ode to Aphrodite" and the Tithonus poem. As well as lyric poetry, ancient commentators claimed that Sappho wrote elegiac and iambic poetry. Three epigrams attributed to Sappho are extant, but these actually Helenistic imitations of Sappho's style." "Sappho was a prolific poet, probably composing around 10,000 lines. Her poetry was well-known and greatly admired through much of antiquity, and she was among the canon of nine lyric poets most highly esteemed by scholars of Hellenistic Alexandria. Sappho's poetry is still considered extraordinary and her works continue to influence other writers. Beyond her poetry, she is well known as a symbol of love and desire between women, with the English words sapphic and lesbian being derived from her own name and the name of her home island respectively. Whilst her importance as a poet is confirmed from the earliest times, all interpretations of her work have been coloured and influenced by discussions of her sexuality." One of the her famous big head statue is in the Archeology Museum in Istanbul. This artwork was created from the manipulation of Sappho’s photograph which was taken by me at this museum. According to a legend, he committed suicide in a young age, when a young sailor named Phaon refused herself. According to other historians, she died deadly. The raindrops in my artwork represent the tears of the platonic loves that she wrote poems but could not come together. Born in Istanbul in 1961. Working as a graphic designer and photographer in his agency for many years, he has been interested in the artistic side of photography since 2008 and continues his studies with digital-collage photography technique in Istanbul. SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: NATURE "Undoubtedly, nature has a magnificent aesthetic and a perfect design that integrates with its rhythm and harmony. In the cycle of daily hustle and bustle, I think that the traces of the unique beauties of nature, which form a whole with our thousand kinds of flowers, beetles and cute animal friends, disappear with each passing day, erased from the memory of mankind. Therefore, I hope that by presenting the images I have often captured in nature to the public's view, accompanied by a strong aesthetic emphasis and a visual feast, people will revive the magic of nature in their souls and care about it again. Let's not forget that we're not going it is the responsibility of all of us to best preserve this priceless legacy and carry it to future generations." ART:  "Although I am a photographer educated in analogue photography and respectful to it, I would like to make it clear that for the surrealistic pieces I made in last ten years in digital. I am impressed by Max Ernst, Rene Magritte and especially Salvador Dali, as they are the forth comming icons of surrealism. Especially in my abstract artworks, I believe that the contrast of light-shadow in my manipulated photographs, the clear-flu field, the fore-background elements, put a surplus value on my work in terms of size. Moreover, the visual integrity perceived from a distance to my works, which has different meanings in the details when examined closely, is another originality of my works. My work consists of different subjects, from the streets of Istanbul to its historical monuments, from various cities to museums, from different objects to nature. My works are digital collage works produced with a wide artistic identity, ranging from abstract and conceptual and sometimes minimalist style to surrealism." "I wish that the light within you will shine forever and that the love of art in your soul will never be lost."
