Silence... Silence might be ominous... In that kind of silence tension increases, which can be unbearable for those staying in that silence... In the silence filled with tension a desire for immediate closeness and security is released, both of which are distant and in that moment, unavailable... alone with your own fears, phobias and demons we become naked and helpless... Project “Silent” includes series of fifteen photographs developed in a darkroom by the artist, closed in frames designed and made by the artist himself. Some of the photos are already made, the rest is going to be made in a rented studio in January. Amateur and professional female and male models are invited to participate. Series of black and white, 50x50 silver gelatine print, analogue photographs . Works are closed in frames made by the artist from specially burned wood. Each of the photographs captures a figure with a blurred face. Photos are very expressive and despite that the face is practically invisible, accompanying emotions are clear and easy to read for the viewer. Exhibition is accompanied by “Silent-disco”. Each participant is provided with the headphones, in which music will be heard, specially prepared in connection to the project, perfectly reflecting the sound which we hear in our heads. The music for the exhibition was composed by Stefan Węgłowski.

Marcin Szpak (born in 1978) is a graduate of Warsaw Film School, majoring in Photography. March 2018 shortlisted in Sony World Photography Awards - Open Portraiture. His works comprise photos and film productions telling unique stories of people, objects, fashion items and one-of-a-kind, often surreal reality. The world of illusion, blur, erotic fascination and even cruelty seems to predominate, and appears to be his most favourite theme. He has been involved in numerous national and international projects run for Radiograph, Very Twisted Kingdom, Sfinks, Silent, Stardust, Deep Blue, Four Seasons, Tabula Rasa just to name the few. His pictures made the front pages not only of the anthologies of poems by Józef Kroutvor and Aneta Kamińska , the covers of CDs by Stefan Węgłowski and Adam Kośmieja but also were staged at countless exhibitions, i.e. IV Festival of Bydgoszcz Photography held at BWA, APK ,Mózg; Before Kranberry - Analogue Photography Exhibition; Art gallery ‘Od Nowa’ in Toruń; ‘Silent’ exhibition at BWA Bydgoszcz, or Artbox Project 1.0 at the ArtBasel. His talent has been recognized during a film production of „Na granicy” where he was responsible for the photos and making off.
