Socially Speaking: Hat - Limited Edition 4 of 10 Photograph

Social media is a mixed blessing. It allows us to connect to friends from the past and to make new ones who have common interests. However, it brings a share of heartburn as well. Hot on the heels of a rejection, we learn friends have had success at the same endeavor. We want to celebrate for them, but we are in the midst of a bout of self-doubt, self-flagellation, self-pity. Social media sometimes exacerbates these wounds, as we may learn of our failure only by seeing a friend’s celebration. This work addresses those warring emotions within human nature… This work won First Place in 2d at the 2016 HJCC Commitment to Excellence, and also won a Recognition Purchase Award from the State of Hawaii, now #1/10 is in the permanent art collection of the State of Hawaii. It was on exhibition during Sept. 2016 in the Annual Juried Show at Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, NY (juror: Paula Tognarelli, Griffin Museum of Photography and at the Masks exhibition at the Southeast Center for Photography in Greenville, SC during the month of October 2016. This work is printed in pigment ink on 280 gsm Hahnemule Utra-Smooth Photo Rag paper, a matte fine art finish paper that prints vivid color and deep blacks and is made by one of the oldest and finest paper-making firms in the world.
