About The Artwork

Sottovetro is a serie of images that addresses the theme of landscape indirectly. Are images where emerges the difficulty of distinguishing between the natural and the artificial. Binoculars, maps and microscopes to study something that is far from us, difficult to see with the naked eye, something that speaks to us of the distance that the contemporary man has placed between himself and nature. The space in which we move is now artificially extended, by an increasingly advanced technology and invasive, which encourages the development of intangible extensions and virtual dimensions. Between man and nature seems to be a lost love, a relationship entered into a problematic conflict which opens to scenarios full of uncertainties. In the diptychs, rectangular in shape, the relationship between the images becomes more airtight. The quiet correspondences are disturbing gaps that are filled with a sense of powerlessness suffered. The artist combines the monkeys of the Museum’s Specola geothermal plant in Larderello. Stuffed animals, preserved in a reliquary, close to a landscape that appears visually polluted by kilometers of galvanized pipes. A dichotomy between the natural and artificial that constantly in this work, triggers a semantic short circuit involving the concept of nature. The images are all diptych: two images in two separate frame 55x 73 cm each one. Are Take with analogic camera, 6x8 negative format. The print is inkjet print on fine art paper over dibond alluminium support.

I am a fine art photographer, through my photographic series I combine my fantasy world with the reality of the world I observe, taking inspiration from the fascination for philosophical and literary thought. My research is characterized by the creation of images with rarefied atmospheres, which refer to a parallel dimension, investigating the themes of identity, fantasy, dream and memory. maintaining an open dialogue with something that is beyond the visible, an off-screen, which is the real focal point of my photographs. Themes of identity, dreams and memory are explored in my photography without leaving out the timeliness of our time. Some of my works have become part of the permanent collections such as the Macn, museum of contemporary and twentieth century art, Monsummano Terme, Italia, and foundations such as Fondo Malerba for photography. I exhibited in several exhibitions both in Italy and abroad and won awards as the Celeste Prize 2009, exhhibition prize ARTELAGUNA, the prize ITS eight talent support for Pitti Immagine, I had a special jury mention at the Talent prize of 2008 and received the silver GONFALONE of the Tuscany Region, as well as being a finalist in several other awards. I use mainly natural light and film based photography, although more recently i also operate with artificial lighting and digital post-production.
