A captivating scene unfolds in a store window as a chic mannequin takes center stage, infusing an air of mystery into the surroundings. The unaltered image, printed on brushed aluminum, depicts a spectral figure seemingly suspended, hovering over a building. Contrary to initial impressions, the building is actually a reflection superimposed onto the staged mannequin walking a tightrope with a parasol. Gliding in a luminous turquoise sequins evening attire over the mirrored metallic grey building she accentuates the brushed metallic panel texture of the print and highlights the building’s 3-D faceted details, intensifying the overall metallic allure. My unretouched photo series of fashion store windows stems from my New York past as graphic designer and art director for product launches and promotion in the cosmetics and fragrance industry that left me with a trained eye for lighting, composition and design. The brushed aluminum print intensifies the sharp angles and details of the reflected building, turning the scene into a multifaceted work of art. The building's facets contrast with the blurred sequins of the moving figure, creating a striking image. The mood of the image subtly shifts with different lighting. All elements, from the interplay of light to the magical fabric textures, every whimsical prop and live street reflections contribute to the enchantment of my visual narrative. The mannequin emerges as a timeless symbol of sophistication, weaving a visual tale where fashion serves as a conduit for narratives. Reflections on invisible barriers manifest as layered compositions, conjuring novel realities captured through my discerning lens and camera. In a single frame, I capture the moment where reality converges with the staged, orchestrating a symphony of multi-layered effects within an enchanting universe. Here, a mannequin silently reigns as the sovereign of both style and substance. 2016 photo taken at Bergdorf Goodman 5th Avenue, New York.

Christine Horyslawsky is a multi-disciplinary visual artist who works in series photography, painting and design. Born and raised in New York and based in Brussels since years, Christine has a background both in fine and commercial art. Her subject choice for her photography series of fashion displays and windows stem from her past: her career in New York as graphic designer and art director in product launches and promotion for the cosmetics and fragrance industry that left her with a trained eye for lighting, composition and design. The multi-layered effects of her images are the results of observed reflections that land on invisible barriers over the staged scenes that in turn, project back the new composed realities. Her trained eye captures unseen realities evoking curiosity and delight in the viewer. These are personal images of mystery, fleeting moments of coexistence of the real, the staged and the imagined. The resulting magic are single shots, straight-out-of-the-camera with no retouching or manipulation. In addition to canvas, she has her images printed directly on brushed metal to further enhance the mystery and play of light.
