The entrances to the royal palace and the cathedral are close to each other, with late morning tourists preparing to enjoy the site. How many joyous occasions have this cobbled street hosted. Construction of the castle started after the previous castle, Tre Kronor, burned down in 1697. The castle was not ready to use until 1754 when King Adolf Frederick and Queen Luisa Ulrika moved in.The Royal Guards have protected the royal family since 1523.
