About The Artwork

Mount Io, or Iozan, is a very famous and active volcano in the Shiretoko Peninsula. On my first visit to its fumarole, I was amazed by all the dynamism and power the sulphur gas had coming out of from the underground. And the sound! It was just like an alien world. I shot many different images of the area, and then tried some long exposures to try and capture all this movement is a less conventional way. Of all the images I shot that day this is the one I prefer: The shape of the white smoke looks like a powerful and imposing entity, almost guarding over the area since a time long gone. The original is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Satin 310 gsm 100% Cotton white satin-finish paper and manually signed.
