About The Artwork

"The dreamer" 1967, is one of very few photos from my first, casual encounter with the “ Mixteca de la Costa.” We were waiting for hours in the shade of a tree for a truck to take us to the nearest village. The girl never noticed I had photographed her. Many years later I cleaned up the background to focus exclusively on her. Topless Mixtec Indians from the Pacific coast of Oaxaca evoke the colors and tropical vision of Paul Gauguin and represent an ancient México that has disappeared. To free myself from the materialistic lifestyle of the postwar years in West Germany I travelled in 1967 as a young photographer to Mexico. Fascinated by a country so different from my own I searched a subject to best express my appreciation and found it with Mixtec Indians on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca. To visit those pristine villages integrated into nature was a privilege and unforgettable experience. The tropical environment and the topless Indian girls evoked Paul Gauguin´s colors and vision of the South Pacific. In three excursions to the region I did the photography for a book on the women and their culture. "Ñundeui, al pie del cielo", published in 2008 by CONACULTA, was summarized by Mexico City media as “Art and memory, poetry and testimony”. Today it is a glance into an ancient Mexico that has disappeared. The 91 cm print comes in a limited edition of 9. Title, author and year of manufacture are included on the print. The print comes with a 2.5 cm white border. Made to order on archival cotton paper in 10 days plus shipping. Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

As an industrial photographer from Cologne, Germany, based since 1967 in Mexico City, I used my craft for decades to document scenes and subjects in sharp, detailed and well lit images. Back in the seventies, when simulating views of other planets, I was looking for a different perception of reality and found it with infrared color film. Today I enjoy a creative freedom similar to that of a painter. With the right combination of photograph and digital manipulation I can create images that are a tribute to imagination and beauty. Starting in 2019 I present on Saatchiart 15 collections as a synopsis of my photography, some digitally remastered and others digitally modified, for sale as archival inkjet prints in different sizes.
