I rented a car in San Francisco. Filled it with Clif bars, water and this silly little road sign I had made the week before and drove around the West Coast for 3 weeks. Chasing a sunrise in the desert, then driving to the snowy mountains for sunset. I walked over live railways and got stuck in a forest fire. In total I drove 4000 miles. Initially this project was shot as a satirical series on how much beauty we experience through a phone, a truly noble and important endeavour I thought at the time. I wanted to show how incredible nature is, how amazing life can be if we pay attention to what’s already here and never runs out of battery. I drove through snow, desert, lakes, waterfalls, salt flats and everything else. Across a whole coast of a rather large country and nearly into the next one. I was obsessed with getting the perfect sunrise or sunset in as many different types of landscape as I could. As soon as I had the shot, I would put the sign back in the car and rush to the next location. It really was one of the best experiences i’ve had in more ways than one. I saw breathtaking nature, often with no one around for miles and at times of day I would never normally be there, when the light was laptop screensaver worthy. But, I had spent the entire time, stressing about getting to the next location, without really paying attention to what was behind my incredibly intellectually humorous road sign. It wasn’t until I had returned that the irony donut appeared as it usually does. The whole thing taught me a lot about myself, how I only seem to know how to interact with the world when it’s to do with making something, how irony might be a defence mechanism (Sure!) and how nature, really is the very very best nicest thing. At least it kept me off my phone. The total series consists of 10 images. No.8 was photographed at the what3words location: ///giggles.grafting.fuse Giclée print, edition of 10. Signed with Certificate of Authenticity. Total size: 1129 x 785mm

Jack Daly's work, focuses on conceptual and often satirical imagery. His previous projects have explored the "American Dream”, as well as the struggles of being masculine in “The Real Man Catalogue”, and internal mental battles such as a hunger for validation in a fictional hotline “The Validation Clinic”. Visually, there is often a colourful outer packaging, exploring a not so colourful concept within, a celebration of the negative, depression in a major key.
