Varanasi sadhu and tree roots - Limited Edition of 20 Photograph

You can imagine my excitement at finding this scene by the river Ganges whilst wandering the streets of Varanasi. I was not only looking for a sadhu or holy man, but also some tree roots for my base or root chakra image, the Muladhara chakra. To find them together was beyond my dreams, and this was definitely a peak experience during the whole project that took 4 years of hard, self funded work. In fact, it wasn't quite the original scene I was confronted with as there was a big crowd of followers surrounding this sadhu when I first saw him. I had to politely clear everyone away, of course, to get a clear shot of the dramatic tree roots growing out of the wall, but they all ended up behind me and when I had finished shooting I turned round to find a very large crowd watching me! I thanked everyone but was too excited to be concerned much about them, so determined was I after so many hours of travelling all around India to get the right shots for my Chakra project.
