She was executed over a scandal involving her relationship with a Roman Catholic priest. She was 20 years old and eight months pregnant when she her lover faced a firing squad. Louise encountered the tragic story of Camila whilst living in Buenos Aires. Sharing the same surname as Camila and that of Irish ancestry intrigued Louise to research further into the life of Camila. Hearing rumours of the ghost of Camila which inhabited a house in which her brother once lived, Louise gained access to this former home. Here in the house in Tigre in the province of Buenos Aires, Louise spent her days interpreting Camila through a series of atmospheric and emotive self portraits.

Louise O’Gorman is a photographer from Ireland. Taking photographs is her form of escapism. The camera allows her to enter another world and create images that form connections with her feelings and experiences. Since graduating with an honours degree in photography over 25 years ago, she has had the privilege of living and working as a photographer in various capacities, across different countries. These experiences have enriched her perspective and allowed her to immerse herself in various cultures while documenting diverse stories and lifestyles through her lens. Her personal practice draws on these experiences. Through her photography she captures the evolving essence of people and places, the transitory nature of emotions and how it feels to be alive. Her images celebrate both life's emotional and physical journeys. Using herself as the subject, she places her physical presence in the frame to tell stories of a person, a place, an experience or an emotion. Rather than being self portraits as such, she uses her body in a more all encompassing symbolic approach to engage the viewer. She has exhibited her work in individual and group shows internationally. Her photographs have have been featured on several book covers, appeared in blogs, magazines and newspapers and form part of private collections.
