MY SECRET ARMOURY: DEFINITION OF MY GRAPHIC WORK I developed a secret armoury in order to confront myself with the Dictatorship of the 1980’s. Much had been spoken of the political repression in Chile dominated by Augusto Pinochet, however not much as to how this repression had affected Culture and the Arts. Pinochet robbed us of happiness but fortunately we held on to eroticism in all of its facets and the essence of Chilean humour. I launched myself against Pinochet with my graphic pornography during this Period which served as social revulsion. My drawings, Goyesque and Hyperrealist include previously photographed real people, developed in black and white. in my own style, which like the grey smog that covers Santiago in the Winter, a cloak that shrouds the bodies of the people that live in this city, the people that commit the crime of living at the limit of their emotions and madness. Without conflict you do not have creativity, you do not have painting, you do not have anything. This risk, the pain of insecurity, creates movement, with the result that Art is a reflection of the human spirit on itself. Pain and suffering makes aura, which is significant as for other reasons happiness and peace are difficult to encounter. Creation could not allow anything which is ordinary, as ordinariness equates to a system, a mechanical cog, a routine; it does not have any capacity for transparency; it does not go further due to the primary instinct of survival. This nothingness signifies the death of an Artist. More precisely, this conflict always places itself in front of the wall of reality. I am not mistaken in saying that my drawings have drama and pain through (the presence of) a series of refined and aspiring characters: the human beings that we could become. Astronauts seek for us a place which without sound or speed (were) we (would) finally choke with our emotions. It is a (route to) permanent suicide, which leads us to bear some kind of moral consideration; suicide is the act most supreme of personal dignity.
