I first heard the word giftedness in January 2024, speaking on the phone with a friend, after expressing concern about what I attributed to my 16-year-old son's adolescent intemperance and anxiety. Over the past year, he had embarked on a path of avoidance and avoidance in numerous areas of life, from school disaffection to less participation in family life, which took the form of passive resistance. While the discovery of giftedness often comes after a period of concern and bewilderment on the part of parents and teachers, it is important to direct one's gaze toward the flourishes that will surely have occurred before and during adolescence and that will surely occur in the future.
