Hi! I sculpted this figure when I was beginning a new chapter in my life. We grow and continue to change. I see her as the embodiment of hope. I was on the island of Kauai when I sculpted her wave base. The sea was all around me. It’s a unique way for an angel to present itself to us, to be sure. We all look to the sea for inspiration and hopefully to find some answer to a question we don’t yet know how to ask. My wish is that the next time you look to the sea, you are open to the gift of love that is all around you. I, as a life-long sculptor, am always inspired by the works of Richard McDonald. Who wouldn’t be? And, Sting has a beautiful song by the same name. “Love is the 7th Wave”…I often see my sculpts as music in 3-d. And each piece reflects the spirit of a song. I cast her in bronze because of the permanence of the material. As I have over 40 yrs experience sculpting for a living, I have control over every aspect of the production of my work. Some pieces come quickly, but others can takes several years in the creation of the initial sculpt. I also make the molds for the wax castings. I spend a considerable amount of time working on the waxes. This is essentially the “2nd sculpting” of the work. After the bronze is cast I am totally hands on for the welding and finishing. My hand is also on the brush in the patina room. Know your chemicals! It’s a joyful moment when I can finally see the finished piece. Literally a dream come true. I’ve created thousands of pieces in every size over the last 45 years. The last 15 yrs has been filled with making life size work for collectors, including a sculpture museum in Spain. Now I’m re-focusing on 3 to 4 ft. works in bronze. I see these pieces as my “legacy”. They are indeed a culmination of my lifetime of creating sculpture. Many thanks, Patrick
