About The Artwork

Entering into the inner structure, the ridges and crossing curves take the eye on an architectural journey. Receding back to take an overall glance, the whole form cradles itself in manifold movement and endless enfolding. This interplay between inside and outside, material and absence, plays a large role in this physically deep piece. Another glance may reveal the sectional extrusions with their looping existence and interrelated dialogue. Inspired by geometry and metaphysics, the form took shape at the juncture between the two. With the winds of inspiration and the evolution of memory, the drawing emerged on paper, calling for its own creation. The interacting parts work together mysteriously; the inner forces and tensions are ultimately resolved in a holistic system which continues to reach outward into the surounding environment, urging the observer to contemplate upon the "inseparability of action". The air dried Port Orford Cedar finished to a light marbling beige on white, then with the light coat of wax and oil, the surface colours shifted to deeper tones with enhanced grain contrast. It is designed for chest level placement. This allows the eyes to peer inside. The back and side views provide dynamic patterns, while the front view displays a more calming charm. It is signed with a pyrograph tool on the bottom including the year.
