About The Artwork

Reminiscent of Crescent No.1 and No.2 (See sold sculptures in online shop), the crescent form offsets the slightly more organic round body. In Permeable Existence No.4, the body is pierced providing the main negative contrast. As in most of the wood forms, the space is given roughly equal importance as the material. This main visual theme results in balanced and tranquil solutions. I was close to placing this piece in the Non-Local Movement series because the opening in the body to me avoids the main directional movement and instils a feeling of halting or of motion in a completely different dimension, ie., dissolution. This dissolving into a non-physical arena is the main idea the Permeable Existence concept refers to. The waxed yellow cedar has a rich golden yellow appearance. The subtle grain pattern imbues the form with a soothing texture as as the natural material stands freely in its final posture. The unheard cry, The smashing of pulses Travelling at tremendous speeds— The invisible And imperceptible Connection of beings— Not of physicality But fueling force, motion, And the darting apart And returning Together. ~Mike Sasaki 2020
